2 Windows machines are needed, why? If your library is huge you need some computing power. So an anemic tablet/phone would not fit the bill CPU wise. Moreover IMHO one of the strength of MusiCHI is the amazing flexibility of the available searches. This implies having a decent screen size to display the data criteria, especially for jazz and classical, hence porting over the player to a small device would kill this feature.
The Server A thin server (i.e. not very powerful machine CPU wise) with some ram 4 GB of more, if you want to play from RAM buffer. An old laptop for example, this machine should be optimized and dedicated to audio. This is the device connected to your DAC/sound system.
The Client A thicker client to perform all the queries you want, without polluting the music being played. I understand the comfort of having a control device to select my music on the sofa that is NOT 35 kilos and 2 meters wide, hence a gaming laptop is not the ideal solution. One can get a very cool windows 2in1 or a tablet, with an i3 or i5, and 13 some inches screen. Because it does not have to be dedicated to sound reproduction you can still use this machine for other computing use as well.
We have 2 ways communication between the client and the server (WiFi or Ethernet) Client: play, stop, next/previous track, pause, jump to another place in the song, sound level / mute if the DAC driver allows it, shut down or reboot the server, switch on/off memory playback. Server: connected status, total playing time of the track, current time and the progress of the playing.
We doubled the number of composers, a lot of new performers too. But most importantly the composition catalogs of many new composers: Hail Britannia; Britten, Vaughan Williams, Elgar. Early Opera madness; Alessandro Scarlatti, Monteverdi, Cavalli, Lully, Pergolesi, Rameau, Gluck, Cherubini, Meyerbeer, Cimarosa, Halévy, Aubert, Bellini, Donizetti, Spontini, Verdi, Puccini, Rimsky-Korsakov.
Mainly an update of the DB server and libraries allowing for tags of greater length; for example now Artist is 400 letters long, Instrument 800, Album artists 2000. However an Important step is required: the manual removal of the old Firebird server program. Consult our wordpress blog on how to do that, here
We have decided to create a better source of information, whether it is general audio topics or tips on how to use MusiCHI better (classical tagging tips, hidden features etc). Some of it are older posts, other are new material. We believe that the organization is better, we hope you will too. Check it out here.
"MusiCHI Suite" has been tested in the Softpedia labs using several industry-leading security solutions and found to be completely clean of adware/spyware components. We are impressed with the quality of your product and encourage you to keep these high standards in the future.
